Salinas Remodel Specialists
The electrical decisions in a renovation are cheap while the walls are open and expensive the moment they are not. Electrical remodeling in Salinas is really about sequence: settle the circuit plan early, rough it in properly, pass the inspection the first time, and the rest of the project stays on schedule.
We work with homeowners directly and alongside general contractors and builders across Salinas, Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Seaside, and Marina, including higher-end remodel and custom home work on the Peninsula. Kitchens and baths, room additions, ADUs, garage conversions, and commercial tenant improvements. Licensed and insured under CA Lic. 1115279, with 20 years in the valley.
If your project is mainly about replacing an old failing system rather than changing the layout, that is a different job. See whole house rewiring instead.

Project Sequence
Electrical remodeling is rarely a single visit. Most projects run through the stages below, though the number of trips and inspections varies with scope, jurisdiction, and how the rest of the build is sequenced. Knowing the general order up front makes it far easier to plan the other trades around it.
The rough inspection is the pinch point. Everything after it waits on it, so it is the one stage worth over-preparing for rather than rushing.
Project Types
Whether it is one room or an entire floor plan, the electrical remodeling scope is written out before anything is opened up.
A remodel is also the cheapest moment to add what you were going to want later. New lighting installation and an EV charger circuit cost a fraction while the walls are already open, and our commercial electrician crews handle tenant improvement work around your operating hours. For homeowners, our residential electrician team folds the electrical remodeling scope into one permit and one schedule, with Wisetack financing available on larger projects.
Call 831-272-4229 to book a walkthrough before demolition. We will build the circuit plan, mark the locations on your walls, and hand you a written scope, so the electrical is settled while it is still free to change. We work seven days a week and coordinate directly with your contractor.
Kitchens carry the heaviest code load of any room, and this is where remodel wiring most often runs into inspection issues. The items below are common requirements under current California code, but what applies to your project depends on the scope, the equipment selected, and the code cycle adopted in your jurisdiction:
Codes are revised on a cycle, adoption varies by jurisdiction, and the authority having jurisdiction has the final say. We confirm current requirements at permit rather than working from memory.
Bathrooms are smaller but no less particular, largely because of the water. Depending on scope and adopted code, expect items such as:
If the bathroom currently has a single ungrounded outlet and a pull-chain light, the remodel is generally the moment to bring the room up to current standards rather than patching around the old work. How far that extends beyond the room depends on the scope and what the inspector requires.
This is the question that derails more Salinas remodels than any other, and it is almost always answerable on day one. A kitchen alone adds several dedicated circuits. Add a bath, an ADU subpanel, or an EV charger and an older panel runs out of both spaces and capacity.
We run a load calculation during the walkthrough and tell you then. If a 200 amp panel upgrade or a broader electrical panel upgrade is needed, folding it into the same permit as the remodel costs considerably less than a separate job six months later, and it means one inspection instead of two.
Most of our electrical remodeling work runs alongside a GC, and the coordination matters as much as the wiring. Rough-in has to land after framing but before insulation, without colliding with plumbing and HVAC in the same bays, and the rough inspection has to be booked so drywall is not sitting idle waiting on an inspector.
We handle that scheduling directly with your contractor rather than making you relay messages. Being open seven days a week helps here too, because a Saturday rough-in is sometimes the difference between a schedule holding and a schedule slipping a week.

Common Questions
Before demolition, not after framing. Once cabinets are ordered and the layout is locked, moving a circuit becomes a change order instead of a decision. An early walkthrough is where outlet heights, switch placement, and dedicated circuits get settled while they are still free to change.
In most cases, yes, though requirements vary by jurisdiction and scope. New circuits, relocated or added outlets and switches, panel work, and structural changes generally trigger an electrical permit and inspection. Swapping a fixture on an existing circuit often does not. We confirm what applies, pull the applicable permits, and schedule and attend the inspections.
It varies with the project, but a typical sequence runs walkthrough and circuit plan before demo, rough-in after framing and before insulation and drywall, then trim-out after paint when devices, fixtures, and cover plates go in. Inspections are scheduled around those stages, commonly a rough inspection before drywall and a final to close the permit. Larger or phased projects involve more trips, and we lay out the expected sequence for your job at the estimate.
Yes, and it usually goes better that way. We work directly with general contractors and builders on remodel and custom home projects from Salinas out to Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, and Pacific Grove. We coordinate rough-in around framing, plumbing, and HVAC so nobody is fighting for the same bay, and we schedule inspections so drywall is not left waiting. Being open seven days a week helps when a build schedule needs a Saturday.
Sometimes. A kitchen typically adds dedicated circuits, and older panels may lack either the open spaces or the calculated capacity to carry them. In other cases a subpanel or simply an added branch circuit is the correct answer. We run a load calculation during the walkthrough and tell you then, not halfway through rough-in. Where a service upgrade is warranted, doing it under the same permit as the remodel is generally more economical than a separate job later.
An accessory dwelling unit is generally wired as a dwelling, which means circuits for kitchen, bath, heating, and general lighting and receptacles, plus GFCI and AFCI protection where applicable code requires it. The larger question is usually the feed. Many ADUs run from a subpanel fed off the existing service, and whether that service can carry the added load comes down to a load calculation. Metering options, setback rules, and utility requirements vary by jurisdiction, so this is worth settling with the AHJ and the utility before plans are finalized.
Drywall waits, and the schedule slides behind it, which is why we would rather over-prepare for the rough than gamble on it. Corrections get made and the inspector returns, with turnaround depending on the jurisdiction. Common correction items include box fill, missing nail plates, cable support and securing, and grounding or bonding details, most of which are avoidable with careful rough-in work.
